Predator Profiles - Search the Database

by Team TCP

Learn how to use a public database to see if registered sex offenders live near you or places you visit.

The Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) is a public safety website. It allows people to search for sex offender information from all across the United States. The website is run by the U.S. Department of Justice and works with state, tribal, and local governments. Their goal is to help keep both adults and children safe.

The NSOPW database lets you search for registered sex offenders who may live near your home, school, or workplace. This information is shared so people can be more aware of their surroundings and make safer choices.

How to Use NSOPW:

  1. Visit the NSOPW website.

  2. Enter an address, city, or zip code.

  3. View a list or map showing registered offenders in that area.

  4. Click on a profile to see details such as a name, photo, and basic offense information.

Why This Tool Is Helpful:

  • Helps people stay informed about their neighborhood

  • Allows families to talk about safety and awareness

  • Can be used when moving to a new area or traveling

Important Things to Remember:

  • Not all states share information with NSOPW.

  • If your state is not listed, you may need to use your state’s own sex offender search website.

  • Information on the site can change, so it is important to check back often.

Use This Information Responsibly:

The information on NSOPW is meant for awareness and safety only. It should not be used to harass, threaten, or harm anyone. Always follow the law and treat others with respect.

Staying informed is one way to help protect yourself and those around you.

We did a sample search video for a RANDOM zip code in IL via www.cookcountysheriff.org/illinois-sex-offenders/, 60612 - 938 RESULTS IN THIS ONE AREA.

This same database displays schools in the area as well. We discovered IL has several databases to select – some worked, some did not. (If you find your state’s database doesn’t function correctly, do a quick google search for another.) Each informed the results may vary from the other IL offenders databases which is a clear indicator there are so many offenders, it’s become a challenge to remain consistent with exact details.
