ALERT!!
First, imagine if it was your loved one – wouldn’t you want as much help as possible? Review Amber Alert information and STAY OBSERVANT!
As of December 31, 2023, 1,200 children were successfully recovered through the AMBER Alert system and 180 children were rescued because of wireless emergency alerts. There are 82 AMBER Alert plans throughout the United States. (SOURCE)
What the Public Should Do (SOURCE)

The public plays an essential role in the success of the AMBER Alert. The plan relies on the public to help locate abducted children before it's too late. If you witness a child abduction, call 911 immediately to report it quickly. Be sure to make note of important information such as the physical characteristics of the child and suspect, the make and model of any vehicles involved (including license plate numbers if possible), and the precise location of the abduction.
If you hear an AMBER Alert, watch for the child, suspect and vehicle described in the alert. Immediately report any sightings by calling 911 or the telephone number included with the alert. (Do not call 911 to request information about the abduction.)
What Parents Can Do to Educate Their Children
Talk to your children about the following:
· Never get into anyone's car without your parents' permission.
· Move away from a car that pulls up beside you if you don't know the driver.
· Say, "No, thank you," if a stranger or someone else offers you candy or gifts.
· Never answer the door if you are home alone.
· Don't play in deserted buildings.
If your child goes missing you should immediately contact your local law enforcement agency. After you have reported your child missing to law enforcement, call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1–800–THE–LOST (1–800–843–5678). AMBER Alerts have been helping children reunite with their families since 9-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered while riding her bike in Texas in 1996. The AMBER Alert system – which stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response – was created to honor her memory.
…there’s no arguing that AMBER Alerts save lives and reunite hundreds of children with their families.

The AMBER Alert program issues alerts only if certain criteria are met: Law enforcement must believe an abduction has occurred, must believe that child is in danger of bodily harm or death, and must provide enough descriptive information about the case, such as details about the child, the abduction, the suspect, and/or the suspect’s vehicle.
How do I receive AMBER Alerts? (SOURCE)
AMBER Alerts are broadcast through radio, television, road signs, and the network of secondary distributors, which include digital signage, hotel chains, internet service providers, apps, and other technology. As of 2013, AMBER Alerts are also delivered to wireless phones through the Wireless Emergency Alerts program (WEA).

Most people will see AMBER Alerts directly from primary distribution and secondary distributors and do not require any additional steps. You may also be notified of an AMBER Alert in the following ways:
On Facebook: Visit www.facebook.com/AMBERAlert and “Like” the page to receive AMBER Alerts in your newsfeed. Facebook also automatically notifies users near the location of an AMBER Alert.

On Instagram: If an AMBER Alert is activated by law enforcement and you are in the designated search area, the alert will appear in your Instagram feed.
On Twitter: Follow @AMBERAlert to receive rapid AMBER Alert notifications on your Twitter feed and share the alert with your followers.
